Sichuan Agricultural University (SICAU), is one of the national Project 211 universities in China, originates from Sichuan Tongsheng Nongye Xuetang (Sichuan Provincial Agricultural College) which was founded in 1906. With over a century of history, SICAU has greatly developed into a multidisciplinary developmental university with feature of biotechnology and predominance of agricultural sciences. SICAU is evaluated as Outstanding University for Undergraduate Education by the Ministry of Education. With a total area of 4,500 mu (300 ha.) and 3,000 employees, SICAU consists of three campuse: Ya’an campus, the Dujiangyan compus and the Wenjiang campus in Chengdu.
Currently, SICAU governs 24 Schools, 15 research institutes and centers and covers10 major disciplines such as agricultural science, physical science, engineering, economics, management, veterinary medicine, liberal arts, pedagogy, law and arts. SICAU holds a sound-designed talent system for bachelor, master and doctoral cultivation. At present, SICAU has about 39,000 full-time undergraduate students and over 4,000 postgraduates.
SICAU possesses 7 post-doctoral research stations. There are 10 first-level disciplines and 40 second-level disciplines with power to award doctoral degree, and 15 first-level disciplines and 67 second-Level disciplines with power to award Master degree. Another 21 specialized disciplines are to award master degree and 86 disciplines are to award bachelor degree. Among all these disciplines, 4 are national key disciplines and 19 are provincial key disciplines. At the 2012 National Assessment of first-level disciplines among universities, we have 6 first-level disciplines are under reviewed. Among them, 3 of them ranked the fourth, 2 of the them ranked the fifth, and 1 of the them ranked the seventh. According to the data released by the USA Essential Science Indicators (ESI) from July to November in 2015, the agricultural science, plant and animal science of SICAU ranked the top 1% globally.
